LTISD Book Bans History

LTISD, like other districts, has always had a book challenge process in place.  Parents can submit a complaint.  The librarian will review and determine the appropriate next step.  If a resolution, cannot be reached, the book will be reviewed by a parent committee.  In addition, any parent can submit a form to their child's school librarian to opt their child out of being able to check out specific books.

But something changed in 2021 when Kara Bell launched the first public complaint against a middle school library bookWe The People began following the playbook of Moms for Liberty and suddenly didn't think the existing process that had worked for decades worked any more.
